Key Characteristics of a Reformation Community

The Abandonment of Traditional Church Structures

Our commitment to journey towards positions of greater accuracy in the evolving purposes of the Lord has required us to depart from traditional church structures. But this departure is not catalysed by human creativity. But rather it is provoked by the unfolding revelation of God’s purpose on two levels, that of the:

  • Global Church;
  • Local Kingdom Community.

The Requirement to Articulate an Alternative Structure of the Kingdom

In Jeremiah 1:10, we see that the mandate given to Jeremiah dictates not only the requirement to create but also to destroy and to pull down. Both types of activity are valid dimensions of reformation.

Creativity implies newness, something for which there was no former pattern. An apostolic reforming community is a pioneering community. With the requirement to reform comes the responsibility to engage in pioneering building activity

The Pursuit of Perfection for the Corporate Expression of Christ (Eph. 4:13)

The end result of the process of the body of Christ is a unified expression of the nature of Christ. To this end there is a very strong emphasis on community. This involves the commitment of each member of the community to values of integrity in relationship, commitment to corporate purpose and the development of quality community life.
